Vanderbilt participates in cooperative initiatives
specially designed to give you convenient, expedited access to varied
library collections. Your ILL borrowing is not limited to these
resources, and you do not have to know their holdings to make requests,
but catalogs are available if you wish to search them.

Project
Athena. Vanderbilt University
and a number of other Nashville-area libraries, including the
Nashville Public Library and Middle Tennessee State University,
provide priority ILL service with regular courier delivery --
typically within a week -- for returnable materials (books,
microforms, etc.). Liberal policies allow us to request items
that are in use at Vanderbilt. The combined ATHENA
CATALOG is accessible from the Library’s
World Wide Web homepage, and ILL requests can be made directly
from the ATHENA
CATALOG. Books received
through Athena for faculty, graduate students and staff can
normally be delivered to campus offices. |

KUDZU.
The Kudzu consortium includes the libraries of over a dozen
southeastern academic libraries. Most of these large research
collections provide expedited ILL service, featuring express
delivery -- often within 3 to 5 days -- for both returnable
materials and copies. Any item not currently available at Vanderbilt
may be requested. ILL requests can be made directly from the
KUDZU
CATALOG (including the catalog of
the Center for Research Libraries), which is accessible from
the Library's homepage. |

IRIS
(Now part of KUDZU). The IRIS consortium includes the
libraries of the University of Kentucky (UK), the University
of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK), and Vanderbilt University.
These large research collections provide expedited ILL service
with courier delivery -- usually within 2 to 4 days -- for loans
and copies. Any item not currently available at Vanderbilt,
even those that are in use here, may be requested. The former
IRIS
CATALOG has been replaced by KUDZU. |

The
Center for Research Libraries.
Vanderbilt is a member of the Center for Research Libraries
(CRL), a major national resource which you should consider as
an extension of Vanderbilt's system. The Center's highly
specialized research collections are available to borrow
through ILL -- regardless of format or type -- for as long as
you need them (or until they are needed at another institution).
The Center’s catalog
and homepage, accessible
directly or through the KUDZU
CATALOG, give an idea of its enormous
size. CRL also owns vast amounts of uncataloged material, so
you should ask for anything of interest. |
