Picking Up and Returning Interlibrary Loan Materials
You will be notified as returnable materials (loans)
arrive. The procedure for evening and weekend access varies by campus
library. (New for faculty: Faculty Delivery Service will deliver
circulating interlibrary loans as well as Vanderbilt Library books to your department
office or faculty box.) ILL materials do not appear in your Acorn record of loans,
but you can log in to your ILL account
to see what you have borrowed, to select your preferred campus library
for picking up your loans ("Change User Information"),
and otherwise manage your requests. You may return ILL books to
appropriate staff in any Vanderbilt campus library (except for Law
and Biomedical) -- but please, not in a book return.
We want you to have the fullest possible use of
what you borrow. We are required to follow standard ILL practices
and the instructions of the lending library, and you should note
that:
- Due Dates must be strictly honored. The date
due, recorded on the ILL wrapper, is based on the lending library's
allowance. Late returns can jeopardize your borrowing privilege,
and you are responsible for any fees from lost or overdue loans.
- Renewals (when allowed) are requested as exceptions.
If an extension is necessary, you can log
in to your ILL account on or a few days before the due date
to request it. Be prepared to return your loan at once if the
lending library refuses the request.
- Recall Notices are sent when the lending library
needs its material back before the due date. You must return recalled
loans within 24 hours of notice. ILL books must never be taken
out of Nashville and commuting distance. If you leave town, deposit
ILL materials with our office.
- If there are restrictions on your loan (such
as that it may not be renewed, that an acknowledgement must be
signed, that copying is prohibited, or that it must be used only
in the library building), the restrictions will be noted on the
ILL wrapper.
